Synopsis

It’s very easy to put people into boxes. We all do it, and when it comes to science we love to talk about “the Public,” “the Media,” and “the Scientists.” For Science communicators Tim Jones, Arko Olesk and Graham Paterson, that looked too simplistic. So in April 2009, they set out to explore the similarities and differences between these groups when they are asked to say what is important about science today…..AND DRAW IT!

Armed with a sketchpad and marker pen, the team sought out willing members of the public, scientists, and science communicators. And, looking over their shoulder in the nicest possible way, asked them to draw what they felt was important in science today. Comments made while drawing were recorded, and to capture the resultant diversity in an intriguing and memorable way, the pictures were stitched together in the manner of the surrealists’ Exquisite Corpse.
