Synopsis
- Tired of being heckled for his red hair, Paul Smith decides to go on a quest to find out what’s possible good about being born with ginger hair. Through science he tries to understand the reason for his red hair and discovers some bizarre facts, but not exactly the answer he was looking for.
Created by DFG and the Wellcome Trust, Science On Film was an intensive training and film production scheme designed to promote collaboration between biomedical scientists and documentary filmmakers, and inspire fresh ways of thinking about science on film.
The sixteen participants were given intensive hands-on training in the documentary production process. Whilst seminars from leading broadcast professionals and scientists including David Malone, David Dugan, Anne Laking (BBC Executive Producer of Science Programming), and Jennifer Rohn encouraged them to explore new ways of making science accessible and exciting to the public without compromising its integrity.
Working in pairs, the scientists and filmmakers were then challenged to co-direct short films inspired by biomedical science.
